Humane Society, Cozumel Animal Charity
The Humane Society of Cozumel Island was founded in 1993 by Karla Porter, from Pennsylvania.
In 1995, they received a one-time grant from the Mexican Federal Government, which was used to build the initial part of their clinic-shelter and to buy equipment.
The society's purpose is to help the dogs and cats of Cozumel Island and they have a center attended by veterinarian staff.
Their long term goal is to have the local authorities establish a humane dog and cat population control program, based on education and prevention of litters.
