Mexico Officially Safe

The US and British governments updated their travel advice for Mexico yesterday, saying it is safe for travel.

In an almost simultaneous announcement, Carnival cruise lines said they would resume some calls in Cozumel at the end of May.

The changes will be welcomed as a victory by almost 3,000 "friends of Cozumel", who signed a petition to the CDC urging them to update their travel advice this week.

As flights, cruises and tourists return to Mexico, the flu scare has become but a memory.

Some international flights were cancelled during the crisis, but last week flights from the UK, Argentina and Cuba, as well as other countries, started to return.

Mexico Commended For Flu Response

Mexico's response to the flu scare was praised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and others, during a two-day summit of health ministers and officials in Cancun, near Cozumel, which finished on Thursday.

New Passport Rules For Americans

U.S. citizens have new passport requirements for returning from Mexico from today.

Basically, a traditional book-style passport is now required, but the U.S. government has also offered an alternative passport ‘card’ to make the adjustment easier.
