Booming music is starting to fill the island's downtown streets again as the colorful countdown to Cozumel Carnival 2012 begins. The next Carnival's dates have been confirmed and the main week of events will take place from Wednesday, February 15 to Wednesday, February 22, 2012, with the biggest night being Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. |

The six stunning candidates for Carnival King and Queen have also been announced and the competition is heating up as they prepare their costumes and dances ready for the big sala performances.
The island's spectacular festival has over 130 years of history and is famous for its live music and dazzling technicolour processions along Cozumel's downtown seafront.
Leading the crowds will be Karla Isela Angulo Carrillo, Diana Minú Díaz González and Marcela Jael Escalante Romero, who are all vying to be Carnival Queen and Andrés Iván Canul López "Cholin", Sergio Márquez Chulim and Juan Francisco Be Chí "Panchito", who are fighting it out to be King.
Competition will be fierce, too, in the under 18 competition, with 4 hot candidates ready to prove why they should be the Carnival Youth King and Queen.
María Antonieta Cuevas Torres "Tony" and Cynthia Elizabeth Valdés Coronado "Ely" are competing to be youth Queen and Leandro Noe May Uc and Manuel Jesús Dzul Brito are battling to be King.
