International triathletes raced hard, last week, as Magnus Ditlev from Denmark and Gurutze Frades from Spain won the men and women's competitions at Cozumel Ironman 2022.

The 140 mile (225 km) Ironman course in Cozumel is one of the most spectacular in the world. The great visibility of water, spectacular ocean side roads and incredible hosts, turns the event into an unforgettable race for everyone involved.

The races are an endurance test of swimming, cycling and running, and form part of the Ironman World Series. The Ironman World Championship was originally started in Hawaii in 1978.

Stormy weather and high temperatures made the usually fast course tougher than in many years, but out of thousands of athletes Ditlev still tore through the finishing line first in just 7 hours 50 minutes and 41 seconds, and Frades completed the women's race in a mighty impressive 8 hours 40 minutes and 47 seconds.

The 2.4 mile (3.8 km) swim begins at the island's Chankanaab Park where athletes experience a picturesque swim with colorful fish and coral reefs during the two-loop course.

Following the first gruelling challenge is a 112 mile (180 km) cycle race on the roads around Cozumel, before finishing with a 26 mile (42 km) run, encompassing the downtown center of Cozumel.
