Cozumel Carnival 2023

Cozumel hit full Caribbean Carnival fever, this week, as the island celebrated a raucous 149th Mardi Gras.

Thousands of dancing tourists and local families joined in with the magical, musical parade for Fat Tuesday.

Latin rhythms boomed out across the Caribbean Sea as technicolor themed floats cruised along the oceanfront and partygoers danced and played live music all round the city.

After the parades finished, the gala continued with more dancing in the main squares to live music, including a banging performance by top Puerto Rican reggaeton stars, Wisin and Yandel.

The following night, after the Carnival confetti, beads and a few sore heads had been cleaned up, Cozumel's main square was packed once more for the official closing ceremony and traditional burning of the effigy of Juan Carnaval.

Cozumel's mayoress, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, presented awards to outstanding Carnival participants, including children, teachers and even the best dressed pets.

Islanders and visitors watched the flames and said a sad farewell to Cozumel Carnival for yet another year, but with amazing colourful memories and looking forward to the 150th Carnival next year. Get ready for a big one!
