A colourful display of Carnival photos by local photographer Tania Nacif can be seen at Cozumel's museum. The free exhibition - entitled "Frenzied Images" - is on until 17 March 2006.

Congratulations to Bill Asbell, the winner of our photo competition. His photo of Thanksgiving Day sunset taken from Las Brisas received 43 per cent of some 300 readers' votes.

Mexican newspaper Por Esto! reported this week that Bill Gates, the Microsoft computer billionaire, was vacationing in Cozumel. The paper said he was staying on his private yacht - "Tatooch" - equipped with all sorts of luxuries including sports cars and a personal helicopter.

Cozumel's Hotel Authority said yesterday that over 2,000 hotel rooms will be available on the island in the next week, following the re-opening of many of the largest resorts in January, with more due to open in February. The authority acknowledged they had hoped even more rooms would be available by now, but most the remaining hotels are on schedule to open very soon.

Two new bars have recently opened on Cozumel's seafront. The Fu Bar is between the Hotel Barracuda and Punta Langosta, at the south end of the downtown promenade. It features swinging bar seats, a great ambience and is Anglo-Mexican owned.
