More Flying From Mexico

ASUR, the authority that runs Cozumel Airport, said last week that more passengers are arriving to the island on domestic flights than before.

Figures published by the authority show a 29.1 per cent increase in domestic passengers in June 2008, compared with June 2007.

Real Estate Get Together

AMPI, the Mexican realtors' association, will be holding their 37th annual conference on the Riviera Maya close to Cozumel this November 20-23.

The association is the Mexican equivalent to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in the US and has close ties with their counterpart across the border.

Wider Pier, Bigger Ships

  Plans are underway to widen one of Cozumel's piers to receive the next generation of giant "Project Genesis" cruise ships.

Once modified, the SSA International Pier will be ready to receive the 5,400 passenger Oasis of the Seas ship, which starts operating in May 2010.

Their 2,600 passenger ship will visit Cozumel at the end of next year.
